| Members present: Willye Bryan, Aggie Lipscomb, Jesse Lasorda, Juanita Lewis, Eva Evans, Evelyn Primes, Lonnie Johnson, Angela Corley, Arthur Glassco, Carrie Jackson, Barbara S. James, Larry Griffin, Richard L. Hegmon. Meeting called to order at 9:00 a.m. A list was circulated for individuals present. The minutes were read and accepted as presented. Many members had copied the minutes from the new LAAAGS web site: www.laaags.org. Treasurer’s report – Juanita Lewis: Balance forward: $1,121.77 Deposits 90.00 Withdrawals 225.21 Refunds to (3) people from the Allen County Library trip 90.00, web site 11.95, Howard Memorial 25.00 Balance $986.56 Report given that the organization now has an active web site. Eva suggested that we put some research material on the web. We can also store materials online. Willye shared that we can now deposit materials at the CADL in the Local History Department. Willye will also setup email addresses for the officers of LAAAGS and addresses for info, comments, and queries. Nominating Committee – Carrie Jackson and Brenda Henderson Carrie presented the slate of officers for LAAAGS for 2005 President Mary A. Lipscomb Vice president Melvin Holley Secretary Angela Corley Treasurer Juanita Lewis Voting will take place at the December 11, 2004 meeting. All members whose dues are paid for 2004 are eligible to vote. There will be no proxy voting. Officers shall be elected by a simple majority. Induction of Officers for 2005 will be conducted at the January 2005 meeting. The Executive Committee decided not to change the By-Laws until 2005. The floor was opened for nominations, there were none. Eva motioned that the slate be accepted as presented, seconded by A. Glasscoe, motion carried. The program for the day was a speaker, Diane Alexzanian. She owns a litigation support business that organizes documents for individuals and businesses, including genealogical files. She spoke about databases and asked questions about what computer programs members are using. Only a few members are using computer programs. She asked specific questions of the group to assess where everyone is in their research. Aggie asked how see can help this group. She said it usually works better when she goes into homes with individuals. She has not done much work with publishing books. Some members voiced interest in using her services. Book Project: Aggie has eight (8) stories on the Project. She suggested we need to talk about structure of Book. There was some discussion on progress thus far. There were questions about what should be included. Larry pointed out that the format for content has been assembled and passed out earlier. Carrie had a question of will the book be limited to personal stories or would a general story be done of individuals who lived in the era we will highlight. Larry confirmed that is the case, there will be many general stories of persons from the early era of Lansing. Eva pointed out that we should be having regular meetings of the committee. She suggested we have four (4) meetings for finishing the Book at the end of that time end the research portion and give it to an editor for putting together. Eva volunteered to coordinate the Project. She suggested meeting in January, March, May, and June. The first meeting will be Wednesday, January 19, 2005, 6:30 p.m., at her home, 434 S. Verlinden St. Voting for the presented slated will be at the December 11, meeting. Willye should send out a membership list to members. Willye suggested we get other lists to send an announcement of our web site. At end of meeting Jesse mentioned his suggestion of joining the Lansing Historical Society. The annual dues are $15.00.
