The President's Corner
This year I would like to call for renewed vigor in interesting new individuals to become members of LAAAGS.  When we know our history we can rejoice even more in our accomplishments and achievements. President Obama has written three books and one of them is a memoir, "Dreams from my Father".  We should all be penning our memoirs. Imagine how excited your grandchildren would be to have your life story written by you!  To that end the members of LAAAGS have pledged themselves to the  renewed effort of researching, writing and presenting their stories.  We invite you to join us in preserving our collective histories by combining with us and writing your very unique story.
We have great plans for the next two years.  Workshops, vibrant monthly programs, increased personal research, road trips, and lots more fun things that I know you would enjoy.
So we invite you to come join us and see what great things are happening with LAAAGS!  I would like to extend a personal invitation for you to give me some feedback.
I would love to communicate with you about LAAAGS, family history research, or any topic you desire.  Please send comments, questions, or just a hello to: willye@laaags.org.   Happy researching!
Willye Bryan, LAAAGS President
Dear LAAAGS Members and Friends,

Happy New Year!  And what a glorious New Year it is.  This year marked the Inauguration of the first African American President in U.S. history.  Indeed African Americans have a lot to be pround of in his election.  Our population voted in higher numbers than ever before and were the pivotal votes in President Barack Obama's election.  President Obama has called for committment and cooperation from all Americans to help pull America out of economic despair and help set this country on its rightful path of liberty and justice for all once more.  As he said in his Inaugural address "We are ready to lead once more."  Some LAAAGS members along with other community members answered the President's call to honor Dr. Martin Luther King on his birthday with a National Day of Service.  We sorted donated food items for the Mid Michigan American Red Cross Food Distribution Center in Lansing.  (See Page 6).
